Kangana Ranaut on Sunday lashed out at fellow celebrities and questioned their selective attention towards social issues. The actress, who was last seen in Judgementall Hai Kya, expressed her disappointment over the film industry being self-centered and accused them of having misplaced passion.
In a recent interview, Kangana questioned as to why no social media awareness and posts were made over Cauvery or Chennai droughts. Adding that petitions are launched when a film lands in trouble with the Censor Board, Kangana said that no such actions are initiated when it comes to local issues.
“I see a lot of hullabaloo about Amazon fire; which is, of course, a matter of concern. But where does this concern vanish when it is about Cauvery or Chennai droughts. Nobody had a social media post for that? So many people died,” she said.
Making a reference to Aarey colony incident, wherein Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd proposed to ax more than 2,000 trees for Mumbai Metro 3 car depot, Kangana asked as to why no petition was launched for the same adding that she thought “messiahs of the industry” would get together and do something. Kangana was quoted as saying, “Obviously, the industry is more self-centered. It has misplaced passion and is manipulative. I don’t know why I never see them fighting for what is right. What kind of flak they would possibly get if they would have possibly stood for Aarey deforestation?”
Kangana has, in the past, ruffled feathers of several Bollywood celebrities. Apart from targeting Karan Johar and the “nepo gang” for nepotism, silence on varied matters and for not promoting her films, the actress also got in a verbal spat with a journalist at one of the promotional events of her last big-screen outing.
On the acting front, Kangana will now be seen in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s Panga and Jayalalithaa’s biopic, Thalaivi.
