Dindigul/Tamilnadu: Two people were arrested for keeping the dead body of a former woman constable Indira in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. The crime was caught when one of the colleagues of the deceased came in search of her. Pastor Sudarshanam and Indira’s sister Vasuki were booked by police as they found Indira’s body wrapped by cloth in a room.
Pastor confessed that they wrapped the body in cloth and kept it inside a a rented house in Nandavanapatti Treasury Colony, believing that Indira, who had died of illness, would be resurrected. Indira’s elder sister Vasuki was converted to Christianity by the same pastor and Indira was also preparing to convert. This was opposed by her husband Palraj, so she left the home in Pattiveeranpatti along with her two daughters and stayed with Vasuki and the pastor.
A couple of months ago, Indra applied for voluntary retirement, due to health reasons. She had gone on a long leave since November 16, 2020. The other day, when her colleague went to serve her order, ‘Vasuki said that Indira was asleep and would wake up’. Police got suspicious as they also noticed an unbearable stench from the house. In further search cops found the decaying body of Indra covered with a cloth, who was dead on December 7.
The police initiated an investigation into the case and the body was sent to the Government Hospital for post-mortem. the police filed case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 176 (Omission to give notice or information to public servant), 304A (causing death by negligence), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating).
