New Delhi: Union Health Minister Harsha Vardhan has announced that the vaccine against Covid-19 pandemic will be provided free of cost across the country. He also said that one crore healthcare workers and two crore frontline workers would be given free vaccine in the first phase, while he was addressing the media after reviewing the dry run of administering the COVID-19 vaccine at the Maternity & Child Welfare (MCW) Centre in Daryaganj, on Saturday.
However the details of how the remaining 27 crore priority beneficiaries will be vaccinated till July is getting finalized, said Vardhan. He added that Every procedure is being followed during the drill except the actual injection of vaccine. The central government plans to vaccinate nearly 30 crore people in the first phase of the immunization process.
Beside the healthcare workers, frontline and essential workers, the vaccine will be provided to 27 crore elderly, mostly above the age of 50 with other disease or medical conditions. Minister concluded that the dry run conducted through out the nation was successful by following all the guidelines.
